TORONTO, ON (April 21, 2019) -- Nearly one hundred and forty young spellers, aged 6 to 15, from across Canada are heading to the Greater Toronto Area to compete in the Spelling Bee of Canada (SBOC) and Épelle-Moi Championship Bees on Sunday, May 5, 2019, in Richmond Hill. Competitors like 11-year old William Kaysaywaysematt III, the first-place winner of the Saskatchewan First Nations Junior Division, have their sights set on being crowned a National Champion at the Spelling Bee.

Featured in the 2017 Hot Docs opening night documentary, “Bee Nation”, Kaysaywaysematt III, a Grade 6 student at Chief Kahkewistahaw Community School, is attending the Championship Bee for his second time. When he was just 8 years old, he won the Primary Division Regional title and had the honour of representing his community in Toronto.
