First Ontario location for popular family festival lighting up BC & Alberta

Barrie, ON (September 20, 2018)—Darvonda Nurseries announced today that the first Ontario location for their hugely successful Christmas Glow festival will be Barrie, Ontario, from November 22, 2018 - January 6, 2019 at Bradford Greenhouses Garden Gallery (4346 County Road 90, Springwater, Ontario).

This is Ontario’s largest indoor family Christmas festival and is expected to draw up to 100,000 visitors. The very first Christmas Glow was held in Langley, B.C last year and sold-out, sparking a desire to spread joy across the country and share this magical experience this year in Edmonton, Alberta, and Barrie, Ontario.

“Our annual Christmas Glow concept for sharing the warmth of the season with family and friends, quickly became a highly anticipated experience, and we expect the same for Barrie,” explains Lawrence Jansen, CEO, Glow and Darvonda Nurseries. “Glow’s indoor setup is ideal for guests to experience our festival in comfortable temperatures, while enjoying playgrounds designed to entertain, and touring the illuminated sculptures and backdrops that are perfect for selfies and family holiday photos.”

This year’s “Glow Around the World” theme invites guests to venture through lighted trails and follow Santa’s delivery path to featured countries such as France, UK, India, China, Mexico and Holland.  Brilliantly decorated with nearly a million dazzling lights, there are festive activities and interactive features for everyone to explore throughout the 125,000 square foot exhibit:

  • Christmas light gardens and sculptures
  • Magic castle playground
  • Tree Lot
  • LED swings and hopscotch
  • Christmas Market with local artisans
  • Seasonal treats & grown-up beverages
  • Live Entertainment
  • Photos with Santa

The Christmas Market will feature unique gifts and decorations from local businesses and artists. Vendors can apply to participate on the website.

“Barrie is so well connected, it’s the ideal location for our first festival in Ontario. Visitors from the Greater Toronto Area, North of Simcoe County and the local area, will find it easy to come and experience Christmas Glow Barrie,” Jansen added.

Darvonda Nurseries is the creator of Glow Gardens, a series of indoor seasonal family festivals. Owned by the Jansen family, they began doing business in 1975, starting out as a 10,000 square foot glass greenhouse in Langley, BC, producing tropical indoor potted plants. The greenhouse facilities have since grown to include seven different locations, including Edmonton, AB, which feature 27 acres of glass and plastic growing space, as well as 20 acres of outdoor production area. The company uses their creative design sense to develop unique product offerings on a per customer basis and offers exclusive design programs to big box stores around the world.

With deep roots in their community, the Jansens have found a new way to connect families and neighbours year-round through Glow. Christmas Glow started in 2017 in Langley, BC. In 2018, they are proud to debut Harvest Glow in Langley and Christmas Glow in Edmonton, AB and Barrie, ON.
